Sheepskin Tanning
Mineral (alum and salt) & Smoke combination tanning
Using alum to thicken the sheepskin, keep moisture out in the humid CNY climate, and to repel insects & rodents
Smoking the sheepskins can help create a softer textile (vs. rug or throw) for clothing making and outdoor use
*Provided by you, may have hides to provide
Mentorship Options
Buckskin
Transforming local white-tailed deer hides* into a soft, durable, suede-like cloth through using smoke & fat
We wet & dry scrape, open & soften hides with the use brains or different natural emulsified fats
such as evoo & my handmade animal fat soap, and smoke hides with self-gathered local punkwood
* deer hide provided by you, if available I may have extra deer hides to sell

Phone or Video Hide Tanning Consultations:

Mentorship at your home/workspace:
$325 per 6 hour day
~*Travel upon must be agreed upon prior to mentorship* - extra expenses to cover travel time,
gas, and loading/unloading materials needed
I can travel with materials & tools and can provide guidance and ideas to prep your space for larger needs like fleshing beams,
fleshing support. frame, wringing beam etc.
Mentorship at my home studio in Dryden:
$275 per 6 hour day
All of the necessary materials, tools all set up and provided
How many people can be included in private mentorships:

For those wishing to tan one hide with their family, you count as one group/party

If the price per day is out of your price range, please consider adding in another friend or two to enrich (and lower the individual cost)
